Lauri Tredinnick
Studio Leader
Pivotal Lighting Design Studio Leader Lauri Tredinnick offers over three decades of experience in spearheading collaborative efforts and fostering the development of architecturally integrated sustainable environments through innovative lighting designs.
While Lauri's initial attraction to Iowa State University was driven by her aspiration to join the marching band, her pursuit of a Bachelor of Arts in Interior Design laid a solid foundation for her fascination with shaping environments using light. Her journey into lighting design was sparked by a transformative lecture on the effects of cool white versus warm white lamps on color rendering. It was during this lecture that Lauri had an epiphany: despite design intentions, inappropriate lighting could hinder achieving the design vision. This realization spurred her to delve deeper into lighting concepts and planning.
Following her graduation, Lauri held roles with a lighting manufacturer, an AE firm, and as an independent lighting consultant where she gained experience in optical design and lighting calculations before finding her home with Pivotal. Her diverse background has enriched her expertise, with a notable transition to focusing on projects in the healthcare and higher education markets, where she explores the profound relationship between light and health.
Lauri's illustrious career is punctuated by numerous design awards and industry contributions, including her recent speaking engagement at the Healthcare Design Conference, where she shared insights on the lighting design of Cincinnati Children’s Hospital. She is a professional member of the International Association of Lighting Designers and holds certifications as a Lighting Professional by the National Council of Qualifications for the Lighting Professions (NCQLP) and as a LEED-accredited professional.
Outside of work, Lauri finds joy in spending time with family and friends, indulging in outdoor activities like walking and biking, and showcasing her musical talent by playing the violin with a group of accomplished musicians. Additionally, Lauri co-leads a book club dedicated to exploring historic socio-economic diversity, igniting her passion for advocating social justice and bridging societal divides.
