Senior Lighting Designer and West Coast Market Leader Seth Ely is a passionate advocate for the art and science of lighting design. With over 23 years of experience in electric lighting design, daylighting analysis, and the internet-of-things lighting control system design, Seth is dedicated to optimizing value on design and data-led projects.

Seth earned a Master of Fine Art from the University of Pennsylvania’s Graduate School of Design in 2000. Upon completing graduate school, he ventured into the realm of lighting design by engaging in temporary museum exhibitions and art collections.  Through these experiences, Seth developed a profound appreciation for the way light shapes human experience and recognized its indispensable role in the built environment.

As a professional member of the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IES), Seth has contributed significantly to numerous IES committees, including the Internet of Things Lighting Committee, Lighting Controls Committee, and the Museum and Art Gallery Lighting Committee, among others.

With a wealth of experience spanning various sectors, including healthcare, corporate, civic, and cultural projects, Seth has consistently provided award-winning lighting solutions throughout his career. Notable projects include the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures and the Wilshire Boulevard Temple Renovation, exemplifying his expertise in complex design-led projects.

Seth has authored publications and presented at prominent industry events, including LightFair, U.S. Green Building Council conferences, and IES events. Committed to providing practical solutions that align with project needs, he also champions technological innovation to support future industry trends.

In his spare time, Seth enjoys traveling with his family, spending time outside, and cycling.
