Tyler Garlock
Senior Lighting Designer
With a theatrical lighting background, Tyler Garlock is well-versed in the fusion of art and science in manipulating space with light. His journey into the realm of technical theatre began at the age of 10 when he first stepped into the lighting booth. Since then, Tyler has relentlessly pursued opportunities to expand and nurture his passion for light and spatial awareness.
He began his undergraduate education at Columbia College Chicago (Columbia) for theatrical lighting. After completing two years at Columbia, he enrolled in a study abroad program at Rose Bruford College in Sidcup, U.K., where his fascination with the art and science of architectural lighting flourished. It was during an on-campus competition involving lighting manufacturers, architectural lighting designers, and various other lighting professionals that Tyler’s interest shifted from theatrical to architectural lighting. He developed a passion for designing within the context of a permanent built environment. Subsequently, Tyler decided to transfer to Rose Bruford College in the summer of 2014, where he completed his Bachelor of Arts with honors. In his final year, Tyler fully transitioned into architectural lighting, undertaking a London-based lighting design internship.
Beyond his involvement in lighting, Tyler nurtures several passions. He proudly serves as a third-generation member and current president of the Lake Zurich Lion’s Club, demonstrating his deep commitment to helping those in need in any way he can. Additionally, he maintains an active lifestyle by playing tennis three to five times a week. In his leisure hours, Tyler cherishes the company of his close friends and family.
