The amenities building of this new medical laboratory campus was built to promote employee health, engagement, and community as well as welcome and impress guests.
The up-lit double height wood ceiling of the main lobby, which is visible from the outside, slopes downward toward the reception. The undulating perforated metal ceiling over the reception area is illuminated from above with linear LED strip fixtures creating a striking futuristic laser-beam appearance.
The client challenged the design team to create spaces that promote employee collaboration and build community. The multi-purpose space provides various unique and interesting areas for people to meet, eat lunch, grab some coffee, or take a peaceful break during the workday. This volume has adjacent exterior walls of full height windows under ceilings of large wood slats with integrated linear lighting, oversized pendants, and ambient down lighting. As its name suggests, this space also has concealed presentation lighting allowing for it to double as a conference venue for large town hall meetings. The rear-wall grazing brightens the café and invites people in, and decorative glass pendants highlight check-out locations.
The selective use of decorative fixtures combined with simple functional light is economical and enhances the bold architecture.
