Pivotal’s architectural lighting design takes on an innovative, long-term approach to this new 21-story in-patient tower that is an expansion of the Methodist Hospital presence at the Texas Medical Center. With 390 patient beds, the new bed tower is being designed to complement both the adjacent Research Institute Building and Outpatient Center (OPC) buildings. The new patient entry lobby and atrium, waiting areas, gift shop, and Grab n Go service supports the upper tower that houses operating rooms and acute and intensive care patient floors.
The exterior lighting is designed to illuminate the upper brow, stair tower, and 190’ tall mast. LED illumination of these elements will be color coordinated with the adjacent OPC building providing a unified campus appearance. Interior lighting at the lower entry lobby complements the exterior lighting with additional select color changing elements and illuminated architectural details. Illumination within the atrium lobby is balanced with the daylight from an upper skylight while featuring a historic mosaic mural being moved from the exterior of an existing Methodist building to this new interior home. Indirect lighting used throughout the patient floors is combined with decorative pendants to create a unique comfort and elegance maximizing comfort for each patient and visitor.
